Carmen Díaz Guadamuro, a young man from Spain, turned to social networks to denounce a situation that prevented her from saying goodbye to her grandfather before her death, claiming that the airline Ryanair made it difficult to board due to the size of the backpack that led with it, which eventually left it on land.
According to a video that quickly became viral on social networks, the young woman bought a Brussels trip to Asturias for 285 euros on June 6, one -way and without hand luggage. The grandfather was hospitalized in critical condition, and the goal was to arrive in time to say goodbye.
However, already at the airport, it was informed by an employee that the backpack did not comply with the required measurements because it did not fit horizontally in the meter. Even saying he would pay the 60 euros extra, was removed from the line and left waiting. Ten minutes later, they informed her that she could no longer board, because the door had closed.
Carmen says he never refused the payment and accuses the employee to lie in the official report. Between tears, he tried to explain the reason for the urgency to the onboard team, but says no one has shown sensitivity or tried to help.
“I lost the flight, the money and, the most painful, I lost the opportunity to say goodbye to my grandfather,” he said. He added that he has already filed a complaint to the company, but remains unanswered.
In the video, it argues that passenger rights should not be ignored in the name of companies’ profit and requires at least one apology and fair compensation.
