Former President Jair Bolsonaro sought his predecessor in office, Michel Temer, to advise himself before giving his statement at the Supreme Court (STF) and heard from the emedebista that he should adopt a more restrained and less aggressive tone.
According to interlocutors of the former presidents, the conversation happened because Temer has already helped Bolsonaro at other times. In September 2021, for example, Bolsonaro wrote a letter of “pacification to the nation,” which was a retreat after a series of his attacks against STF ministers.
Bolsonaro spent the weekend in Sao Paulo to consult with lawyers and prepare the strategy for the testimony involving the trial of the possibility of a coup plot against the 2022 presidential election, of which he is appointed as the main leader.

Temer is close to the STF minister Alexandre de Moraes and he was the one who indicated the minister for the vacancy in the court. In the testimony, Bolsonaro even apologized to Moraes and other members of the Supreme for criticism made to him at a ministerial meeting in July 2022.
Bolsonaro was questioned by Moraes about statements made at a ministerial meeting about him and ministers Edson Fachin and Luís Roberto Barroso, also members of the Court.
– I have no indication. It was a meeting not to be recorded. So, I’m sorry, I had no intention of accusing misconduct against the three, ”said Bolsonaro.

At another point, Bolsonaro made a joke and invited Moraes to be his deputy in the presidential election next year, to which the minister replied that he declines. The former president is ineligible for attacks on the electronic ballot box, but has insisted on the thesis that he will compete in the election.
Former President Temer’s allies said he accompanied the statement and considered that Bolsonaro did well. The emedebista also welcomed the fact that Bolsonaro quoted the joke about Moraes being vice.
The testimony happened on Tuesday and it was the first time Bolsonaro and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case at the Supreme Court, were facing an audience in the first class of the court to answer questions about the coup plot. The former president and the Supreme Minister were already in the same room during the complaint trial in March this year, but did not interact.

The interrogation took place within the scope of the criminal action that evaluates Bolsonaro and seven other defendants, the so -called “crucial core”, planned a coup to prevent President Lula’s inauguration at the end of 2022. They are accused of the crimes of violent abolition of the Democratic Rule, coup, criminal organization, qualified damage and deterioration of listed heritage.
