The Brazilian Supreme Court has supported the responsibility of social networks for illegal contributions, the vote continues.

Most judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court supported the proposal that companies operating social media will be responsible for the illegal contributions of their users. TASR informs about this on the basis of Wednesday’s report AP.

The proposal was approved by six of the eleven members of the court and the key vote was cast by Judge Gilmar Mendes. A simple majority is sufficient for approval, thus gaining the necessary support. However, the vote continues.

Judge Mendonça’s decision

As the only proposal, Judge André Mendonça, who published his disagreement last week, was rejected. The court’s decision shall come into force after the vote and officially publish the result. The Brazilian Parliament may reverse the situation by adopting new legislation.

Valid legislation

Currently, legislation in Brazil provides that companies operating social networks can only be responsible if they do not remove unlawful content after the court order is issued.
