The case of Deputy (-SP) was debated this Friday (13) in the Parliament of Italy.
At the initiative of an opposition deputy, the government was questioned in the House about the permanence of the Brazilian in Italian territory, after having fled from Brazil to escape the sentence of ten years imposed by (Federal Supreme Court).

“Police investigations so far, and in progress, did not consent until the moment to confirm their location,” said the deputy minister, who said police forces are in contact with Brazilian authorities.
Ferro did not comment on the request for extradition, which was delivered on Thursday (12) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by the Brazilian Embassy in Rome.
Another question of Deputy Bonelli was whether the former president and his children would have obtained Italian citizenship for being descendants of Italians.
According to Ferro, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “no request for recognition of Italian citizenship” was received from the former president.
Already the children Flavio, Eduardo and Carlos obtained the Italian citizenship, through request with the Italian embassy in Brazil. The first two obtained the document that gives access to the Italian passport in 2023, while Carlos obtained his last year.
In his replica, Bonelli criticized the answer and accused the government of coverage to Zambelli. “The government and the Ministry of the Interior knew that the fugitive Zambelli was coming to Italy and did not activate monitoring and surveillance measures,” he said.
