About to launch the book “That Not Repeating”, by the newly opened, Journalism Professor Eugênio Bucci prepares for the, where he also launches a new book and debates the 40th anniversary of Brazil’s redemocratization.
Professor at USP (University of São Paulo), Bucci already has other published books on journalism. In, the author discusses how practice has changed in the face of recent phenomena such as social networks, Covid-19 pandemic and the popularization of generative artificial intelligences.
The book investigates the new rationality that took the world, from a inhuman logic dictated by the fusion between technique, capital and language. Bucci quotes as an example dating apps that put people in contact with robots.
“In this digital utensil we have the fusion between the technique (represented there by technologies of cybernetics), capital (which is in the relations of imaginary, incorporeal production and consumption of goods) and language (today, machines have learned to speak and have become subjects of language),” says the author.
This reason, according to Bucci, besides inhuman, is not democratic. “It is a material force that conspires against the democratic order replacing understanding among people with automatic and bureaucratic machinic processes,” he says.
For him, technology is not evil, the problem “is social relations and property relations that tie every form of current technology.”
Democracy will be the subject of the meeting between Bucci and the historian Carlos I stay at the Book Fair. The two meet on Saturday (14), at 1:45 pm, on the Petrobras Stage, to deal with.
Bucci states that it is important to value the durability of the 1988 Constitution and the current democratic arrangement, but also points to the “problematic flaps” that formed this regime.
“For starters, it is a democracy that does not translate into material benefits for the vast majority of the population. There is no security or social justice for Brazilians. Still, it is better, much better, than any alternative. We need to insist on it, improve it and transform it quickly.”
In addition to reflecting on the limits and contradictions of democracy, Bucci also focuses on the attacks she has suffered in recent years. In “That does not repeat”, the author makes a diary about the country’s daily life during the government of Jair Bolsonaro-of multiple aggressions to culture and journalists until the attempted coup by which the former president.
