“Impossible particle” that hit the earth can be dark matter

A mysteriously energetic particle detected in 2023 may, after all, not be a neutrino; but something much stranger to science.

An extremely high energy particle that has been caught crossing our planet has since left perplexed scientists.

While many researchers believe the particle was an unusual neutrino, some now suggest that it may be something even stranger: a Black matter particle traveling through the cosmos.

As it writes, Detector KM3NET, off the Italian coast, detected this neutrino “impossible” in 2023, while still under construction.

The particle in question was of immense proportions, 35 times more energetic than any other previously observed.

Yours origin remains a mysterywith possible sources that include a galaxy with a very active central black hole known as, or a high -energy neutrinos background source that permeates the universe.

However, a study in arXiv In late May there is another explanation. Researchers at the University of Washington theorize that this particle may, after all, have not been a neutrino; but one dark matter particle to pack on our planet from a Blazar.

Particle like no other

Since 2011, the neutrinos Observatory has seen evidence of hundreds of cosmic neutrinos, but never something as energetic as the discovery of KM3NET.

Bhupal devwho led the investigation, explained to the New Scientist that “dark matter goes through a lot of matter from Earth. This may explain why Icecube has not seen it.”

In this case, according to Dev, the particle would have been produced in a Blazar and then triggered toward the earth in a beam.

The investigation team is in favor of this idea because the high energy protons in a blazar more efficiently transfer their energy to dark matter than neutrinos. The vast majority of other events detected by KM3NET and Icecube would probably have been neutrinos.

If this theory is correct, scientists have found a method for finding and studying black matter particles that have never been detected before. However, not everyone is convinced of it….

“This is probably a vulgar neutrino, but with a exceptional energy“, Disse in New Scientist And Hooper from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
