The (Attorney General’s Office) called for the arrest of Lieutenant Colonel on Thursday (12) after identifying that the military’s wife, wife and daughter traveled in late May to the United States.
In a petition sent to the (Federal Supreme Court), the Attorney General states that the trips of Cid’s family members associated with suspicions that the former minister was trying to get a Portuguese passport to the military indicated the defendant’s possibility for the coup plot to escape the country.
“The information reinforces the criminal hypothesis already outlined by the Attorney General’s Office and highlights the strong possibility that Gilson Machado Guimarães Neto and Mauro César Barbosa Cid are seeking alternatives to enable Mauro Cid’s departure from the country, stealing themselves to the application of criminal law,” says Gonet.
Cid’s family arrived in Los Angeles, in the United States, on May 30. The flight had a scale in the city of Panama, and all performed the migratory exit procedure on the same date.
The Federal Police found two locators linked to passengers. One was in the names of Agnes Cid and Mauro Lourena Cid, parents of Lieutenant Colonel. The second contained the names of Gabriela Cid (wife) and two daughters of the couple.
According to the PGR, there are no records of migratory procedure for the country of one of ICD daughters.
Gonet presented the information to the Supreme and requested the custody of Gilson and Cid, the search and seizure of the two, the authorization to access targets equipment and electronic devices and the submission of report of monitoring the military anklet.
The minister authorized the operation on Thursday. According to Cid’s defense, the police arrived at the military’s house with an arrest warrant, but were already informed at the residence of the officer that the detention had been revoked by Moraes.
The STF’s staff also confirmed that the military was not arrested without giving details. Cid arrived at the headquarters of the PF in Brasilia around 11am to give testimony. Gilson Machado was arrested at his home in Recife (PE).
Part of Mauro Cid’s family lives in the United States. Daniel Cid, the military’s brother, lives in California – and she houses one of Cid’s daughters for at least three years.
Cid’s father also lived in the US during the Bolsonaro government, appointed to command Apex’s office in Miami from 2019 to 2022.
Mauro Cid was admitted on February 11, 2023 in a request for recognition of his Portuguese citizenship. The mother of the military is a citizen of Portugal, which entitles Lieutenant Colonel to have the country’s citizen portfolio.
Wife and daughters of Cid also had Portuguese citizenship. The process with the Portuguese Embassy concluded in 2024, and the military received an identity card with validity until January 3, 2035.

The Federal Police suspected since the beginning of the year that Mauro Cid could try to escape the country, even with the benefits of his award -winning collaboration approved by the Supreme Court. The hypothesis was based, initially, the dispatch of the Portuguese Identity Card.
