The actress and host Dira Paes, known for living several iconic characters on Brazilian television, appeared on Saturday (14), in defense of Raimundo Barros, known as “Raimundão”.

In recent days, the rubber tapper has received several attacks after the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) triggering Operation Suçuarana, which seizes illegal cattle in the Extractive Reserve (Resex) Chico Mendes, Acre.
In the images released by the Chico Mendes Committee and the Chico Vive platform, Dira talks about Raimundão’s trajectory and his important struggle and recognition in defense of the Amazon rainforest, especially in Acre.
“Raimundo de Barros is today the guardian of Resex Chico Mendes, a space for socio -environmental protection with standing and productive forests. To have a possible future, it is essential that leaders such as Raimundão are reference and listened,” he says.
After videos published on social networks of farmers lamenting and crying the loss of heritage, as well as asking that ICMBio returns the animals, popular commotion encouraged other farmers to disseminate hate speeches on the internet. The attacks aims at the environmental agency and blame environmental advocates in the state, such as Raimundão.
Dira says that extractive reserves spread throughout Brazil are achievements of the Legacy of Chico Mendes, and seeks with the publication to expand the voices that defend these spaces, especially the Acre rubber tree that suffers a campaign of destruction and defamation.
