More than 40 speakers, including entrepreneurs, associative leaders, experts and stakeholders, met in Albufeira to the Aheta Turismo +30 conference held on Thursday, May 29, under the motto ‘add value to the Algarve’.
The event, which took place at Algarve Marriott Salgados Golf Resort & Conference Center, promoted debates on the need for innovative strategies to ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of the tourist sector in the coming decades.
The conference addressed topics focused on how the Algarve can adapt to a constantly evolving global scenario, maintaining its attractiveness and protecting its natural and cultural resources. Hélder Martins, president of Aheta, evaluated the initiative, which took 11 months to be planned, as “very positive”, noting that “in the Algarve, there was never any conference with this dimension.”
The associative leader even suggested that “Aheta organizes such an event every two years to discuss the future of the region.”
For the organization of the conference, Aheta had the partnership of Kipt Colab. The president of this entity, Antónia Correia, considered that they were discussed “very important topics” and, especially, “a union and a capacity for cooperation was stated among all entities that is fantastic and it is worth continuing to promote”.
In the understanding of Carlos Abade, president of, events like this “are very important not only for reflection but also for the celebration of what was good during these 30 years.”
Pedro Machado, Secretary of State for Tourism, for its part, classified the event as “strategic for the sector”. The ruler took advantage of the occasion to express the desire that “Aheta and the Algarve will continue their path of growth and development, responding to collective challenges and not just a region. They are challenges of a country.” In addition to having the high sponsorship of his excellence, the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, this conference was sponsored by various entities, namely: Turismo de Portugal, Albufeira City Hall, Novo Banco, Marriott Hotels, Algarve Tourism, Ana Aeroportos, CVA – Algarve Water Commission and Floral Image.

This conference was the moment chosen to debut the commemorative video of Aheta’s 30th anniversary, which is already available on Youtube.
The video includes testimonials from determining people for the history of the association and, of course, several mentions to Elideric Viegas, founder of Aheta and president for 26 years, died in November 2024.
