The main suggestions for tightening are increasing the minimum age to buy weapons, but also to tighten psychological tests.

The Austrian government plans to tighten firearms laws after Tuesday’s shooting at Graz Graz, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker said on Saturday. According to the DPA report, TASR reports this.

Stocker said in an interview with the ORF public service telephony that MEPs could increase the minimum age for buyers of weapons. The office also called on the tightening of psychological tests, which must be undergoed by those interested in the firearms license.

According to DPA, the government plans to take a series of measures after Tuesday’s shooting in the following week.

The local media identified the shooter as 21-year-old Arthur A. He shot nine students aged 14 to 17 on Tuesday at the school he attended in the past. The injuries after the attack was also succumbed to the local teacher. His attack lasted about seven minutes and used a gun and a shotgun. He had a firearms license and owned the weapons legally. The shooter committed suicide after the attack.

DPA notes that there are almost no obstacles to obtaining a shotgun in Austria. The attacker from the city of Graz received a firearms license to hold a pistol after passing the psychological test. Later, however, it became clear that in 2021 it was not admitted to military service for mental instability.
