Bottle with messages gave to the coast in Porto Santo

After two years of traveling around the ocean, bottle stopped half a world away from where it was thrown into the sea.

Recently arrived on the coast of Porto Santo a set of messages inside a bottle, two years later to have been thrown into the sea.

It was Nicholas, sailor and observation captain of whales, who discovered the bottle in the sand, during their vacation on the island of the Madeira Archipelago.

The message was launched to the Atlantic Ocean by the crew of the S/V Denis Sullivanin Florida, USA, on April 14, 2023.

“Some wrote a description of the trip, others wrote about themselves, others wrote a poem, others made small drawings,” Christopher Flansburg told the ship’s captain.

In one of the messages, a quote from the poem ‘Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage’ by Lord Byron:

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,

There is a rapture on the lonely shore,

There is society, where none intrudes,

By the deep Sea, and music in its roar:

I love not Man the less, but Nature more,

From these our interviews, in which I steal

From all I may be, or have been before,

To mingle with the Universe, and feel

What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal

Large sailboat operators, based on Boston during the hot season, were contacted by ‘Nico’, who proposed to continue the bottle trip. He added his message and thrown it back to the sea.

Denis Sullivan’s crew embraced the gesture, as a proper continuation of the bottle trip, from one sail to another.
