Brazilian activist Thiago Ávila, 38, exposed on social networks, this Friday (13), the marks of aggressions he claims to have suffered while being detained by Israeli authorities. He was arrested while trying to bring humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and, after being deported, landed in Sao Paulo this morning.

During the report, Thiago also asked for support from other activists who remain in Israel’s custody/ Photo: Reproduction
In the published video, Thiago displays red spots on the abdomen, arms and legs, the result, he said, of the torture suffered during detention. Initially, the Brazilian avoided reporting the details of the aggressions, justifying that his pain “is much less than that of the Palestinian people”, but decided to make public the situation to denounce the abuses.
During the report, Thiago also asked for support from other activists who remain in Israel’s custody. “We need to demand the immediate liberation of Marco, Yanis and Pascal. They were taking food and drugs to children in Gaza who are starving. This cannot be ignored,” he said.
In addition to the three quotes – Mark Van Rennes, from the Netherlands, and the French Pascal Maurieras and Yanis Mhamdi – other activists were also deported: Suayb Ordu (Turkey), Yasemin Acar (Germany), Reva Viard and Rima Hassan (France).
Upon landing at Guarulhos International Airport, Thiago reported moments of intimidation by the soldiers. According to him, the necklace he wore, named “Palestine”, was a cause for provocation. “They said Palestine does not exist and that I was in Israel. In the first approach, they threw me against the wall saying, ‘Welcome to Israel, Thiago.’ This phrase was repeated during the episodes of violence,” he said.
The group of which he was part tried to join Gaza with essential items, such as food and medicines, but was eventually detained by Israeli forces amid the escalation of conflicts in the region.
