The means of transportation of Rio de Janeiro join for the 3rd year in a row to Hemorio (Institute of Hematology Arthur de Siqueira Cavalcanti) to encourage blood donation. The partnership will offer two free tickets to volunteers to the unit in the central region of the capital. The campaign began on Monday (9.jun.2025) and runs until Sunday (15.jun.2025).
The Solidarity Route Campaign is part of June Red’s actions, a month dedicated to awareness of the importance of blood donation to save lives.
In 2024, the initiative increased by 27% the number of donors, resulting in 1,902 blood scholarships collected during the action.
Hemorio’s blood stock supplies 100 public health units, including all major emergency hospitals in the state and federal network units, as well as the Hemorio hospital itself, which serves patients with hematological diseases such as sickle cell anemia, hemophilia and leukemia. The goal of the institute is to close the year with 90,000 blood bags collected.
This year, the initiative participates in the subway, VLT Carioca, Semove, Supervia, in addition to the Raocard Electronic Ticket Cards and Jaé.
How to participate
To participate in the solidarity route, donors must go to Hemorio, at Rua Frei Caneca, 8, downtown Rio, from 7am to 6pm, and inform what was the modal used. After donation, two tickets will be available to cover the costs of the displacement. Tickets can be of different modes – for example, the donor can go by train and return from subway. Jaé card holders will receive credits on the account by app or directly on the card.
Who can donate
To donate blood, you need to be 16 to 69 years old, weigh at least 50 kg, be well in health and carry an official photo ID. Young people aged 16 and 17 can only donate blood with the permission of parents or legal guardians and present an identity document of the guardian. The authorization model is on the website hemorio.rj.gov.br.
It is not necessary to be fasting, just avoid fatty foods in the 4 hours before donation and not eat alcohol drinks up to 12 hours before.
