Did you receive this alert after delivering the IRS? Here's what you should do before it's late

The submission of the annual IRS statement may not be completed with the simple submission of the document. For some taxpayers, the process also reserves an unexpected notice: the divergence alert. This notification arises when the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) detects discrepancies or data that need to be confirmed.

According to a publication of the Ministry of Finance on social networks, the message with the warning of “divergence” means that there are differences by clarifying or information that needs justification by the taxpayer.

The situation may occur for various reasons: income declared by paying entities that do not coincide with the amounts inserted in the declaration, omissions, or other incompatibilities in the data.

Where to consult the alert

The first step in solving the situation is to access the finance portal. According to the same source, taxpayers should enter their personal area and, in the initial menu, select the options: “Citizens” – “Services” – “Divergences”. There, it is possible to consult the origin of the alert and realize which data has raised doubts.

Correct or justify the information

AT allows two distinct approaches to solve the problem. The first is justifying the data previously submitted, through the presentation of proof.

The second is to correct the IRS declaration, introducing the correct data based on the identified divergence. Both paths are available directly on the portal.

Term for regularization

It is important to act with speed. As explained by the Ministry of Finance, there is a deadline to correct or justify the data, otherwise the declaration is considered invalid.

Failure to clarify the differences can lead to the application of fines and the loss of tax benefits, such as specific deductions or automatic reimbursement.

We recommend:

Most common differences

Among the most frequent reasons for the alert are differences in dependent work income, omission of pension or subsidies, or discrepancies in the amounts paid by health and education.

Alerts related to the composition of the household or charges with real estate may also emerge.

Access to communications history

Also on the Finance Portal, taxpayers can access the history of AT notifications and communications.

The functionality allows you to track the treatment of divergence and ensure the registration of all the steps taken during the correction process.

Consequences of inaction

Ignoring the divergence alert is not advisable. According to the Ministry of Finance, the lack of response may lead to the non -validation of the declaration, the annulment of reimbursements and, in more severe cases, the opening of fiscal offense proceedings.

Support available for clarification

Taxpayers may also contact the support services of the in person by telephone or by e-Balcão.

The answers are usually fast, especially at this time of year when there is reinforcement in service for IRS -related situations.
