Minnesota Police finds a used car on suspicion of shooting legislators

Police recovered a list of names of various legislators and other officers in the fake police car that a suspect used shots against two minnesota legislators.

Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley said the recovered writings identified many legislators and other officers. The writings were discovered when the officers searched a fake police car who believe they were used by the suspect.

Democrat Melissa Hortman, former mayor of Minnesota, and her husband were shot and killed early Saturday at her home in Brooklyn Park.

A second state legislator, Democratic Senator John Hoffman and his wife, were shot several times in Champlin, a city 14 kilometers from Brooklyn Park, a way that takes 15 minutes by car to be done. Officers say both Hortman and Hoffman were on the list found in the suspect’s car.

“When we searched the vehicle, there was a manifesto that identified many legislators and other officers. We immediately made alerts to the state. Who were the targets of the attack

At the time of his death, Melissa Hortman was the highest level democrat in the state legislature. She has also chaired the local chamber. He was first elected in 2004. The former deputy and her husband had two children.

John Hoffman, also a Democrat, was first elected in 2012 and represents a district north of Minneapolis. He and his wife have a daughter.

The shootings took place at a time when political leaders across the country were attacked, harassed, and intimidated over a period of deep political divisions.

The Giffords organization, which fights for violence prevention and is led by former deputy Gabrielle Giffords, a statement released. “My family and I know the horror of a targeted shooting very well,” the entity said. “An attack on legislators is an attack on American democracy itself. Leaders must speak and condemn the violent extremism that fosters and that threatens everything this country represents.”

Giffords was shot in the head in 2011 by a shooter who killed six people and injured 12 others. She resigned to Congress in January 2012 to focus on her recovery.
