Croatian consul and his wife were easily injured after the Iranian missile attack in Tel Aviv. The apartment of diplomats is destroyed. The attack raises concerns about the safety of diplomatic missions in the country.
Croatian consul and his wife suffered light injuries after the Iranian rocket hit their apartment in Tel Aviv on Friday, Croatian ambassador in Israel Vesela Mrdjenova Koračová said. TASR reports this according to Saturday’s report by Hina.
“Both of them were treated at the emergency room yesterday. They stayed in the hospital for observation, but they were released in the morning,” the Ambassador said. She explained that although consul and his partner were shaken, they are “in good physical condition”.
Missiles near the ministry
According to Mrdjen Koračová, the building with the Consul’s apartment is located in the “immediate vicinity” of the Ministry of Defense, which in the past was “one of the main goals” of Iran’s operations, the militant Lebanese Hizballlah movement or Yemeni rebels of Húsí.
“Their apartment is destroyed,” the ambassador said. “Nowadays they have been staying (elsewhere), hopefully at a safer place,” she added. There was another Croatian diplomat in the same building, but he did not suffer injuries in the attack.
International condemnation of attacks
Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlič-Radman stressed that the ministry is in continuous contact with the Croatian embassy in Israel and takes all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of its employees.
“We strongly condemn attacks on civilians and diplomatic facilities. We call for immediate de-escalation and restraint,” said Grlč-Radman.
Israel launched attacks on several sites in the Iranian capital Tehran on Friday. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the aim was nuclear and military facilities. In response, Iran attacked Israel.
