Opponent headed an interim government without practical functions until January 2023, supported by the United States and more than 50 governments that did not recognize the rereading of Nicolás Maduro in 2018
The prosecutor of the prosecutor requested a new order of arrest and a red warning from Interpol against the opponent, accused of alleged cases of corruption when he was at the head of the symbolic interim government. According to Attorney General Tarek William Saab, the opponent offered “the payment of a 500,000-euros commission per month for a period of three years to senior Spanish government positions in exchange for its recognition as alleged ‘interim president’ of Venezuela.”
During this interim, the Venezuelan opposition took control of Citgo, a branch of state -owned Petroliferous PDVSA. In addition, it prevented control by the country’s Maduro government from the country’s gold reserves, stored in a bank in England.
In October 2023, the Venezuelan prosecutor dictated an arrest warrant against Guaidó, which fled to the United States in April of the same year, and requested an Interpol red alert after accusing him of “delivering” Citgo. This case is added “the 29 cases against Guaidó for crimes of usurpation of functions, money laundering, homeland betrayal and association to delinquir, among others,” added Saab.
