In an interview with young Pan News, Daniel Zonshine said that Iranian nuclear program is a problem for the whole world and considered that Israeli attack may have avoided a crisis of global proportions
In an interview with Young Pan Newsthe ambassador of Brazil, expressed great concern with the escalation of the conflict with the. He justified the recent Israeli military operation as a “almost last moment” response and necessary, in the face of constant threats and the advancement of the Iranian nuclear program. Zonshine also commented on the functioning of the embassy, support for Brazilians in the region and evaluated the position of the Brazilian government in the face of the crisis.
The ambassador stated that Iran usually makes statements about “the need to destroy Israel and the United States,” which, he said, contributes to justify the Israeli attack on Tehran on Friday night (13). He also mentioned the advance of the Iranian nuclear program, which has already reached 60% uranium enrichment – a level that, according to Israel, has no civil use and poses a risk of nuclear weapons proliferation.
Zonshine said the operation had broad support from the Israeli population, with the country “united” around the government and the Armed Forces. The action reached part of the Iranian nuclear infrastructure and resulted in the death of some military leaders linked to the project. For the ambassador, Tel Aviv’s response may have avoided – or at least postponed – a crisis of global proportions. He classified the Iranian regime as “extremist and religious” and said that, coupled with an advanced nuclear program, it represents “a danger to the whole world.”
“The problem is not in the Middle East. FLet us have a type of service to the world. The Iranian regime is religious and extreme, and this combination of regime of this nature with a nuclear bomb is a danger to the whole world. So, through this operation, we avoid or postpone a bigger problem for the whole world, ”said the diplomat.
Embassy operation and support to Brazilians
Asked about the operation of the Israeli Embassy in Brazil in the midst of the crisis, Zonshine explained that the diplomatic mission is still active, although with daily reevaluated operations according to the evolution of the security scenario. He stated that one of the priorities has been to support the Brazilian delegations in Israel in the country’s safe return. At least 41 municipal or state authorities in Brazil are in Tel Aviv.
Relationship with the Brazilian government
Commenting on the position of the Brazilian government – which condemned Israel’s first attack on Iran and expressed concern about the escalation of the conflict – Zonshine acknowledged that there is a “difference of opinions” between the two countries. According to him, this divergence is mainly linked to the way each nation sees the risk posed by the Iranian nuclear program. “There is a difference in being there in the Middle East as a potential target of this project [nuclear] and the situation from other countries. ”
