The mold on tomatoes can do great damage within a few days and endanger the entire crop. Most often it occurs in humid weather and insufficient air flow between individual plants. In order not to lose your tomatoes, the prevention and timely recognition of symptoms is important.
Molds represent one of the greatest threats in growing tomatoes. They can spread very quickly and in a short time completely destroy plants and fruits. In Czech conditions, we most often encounter several mold species. The most dangerous is potato mold, which causes dark watery spots on leaves and fruits. Furthermore, the gray mold, typical of the gray coating and the rapid rotting of the fruits, or the fallen tomato, which is manifested by a white flour coating on the leaves. Less well -known, but no less problematic is the pointed trinket, which begins with yellow spots and often resists ordinary spraying. The first symptoms of attack are small spots, deformation of leaves, flourish or rotting coatings, overall wasting of the plant and in advanced cases unpleasant odors. The timely recognition of problems is the key to saving the crop.

How to prevent tomato rot
The basis of prevention is the selection of a suitable habitat and the right conditions for cultivation. Tomatoes should grow in a sunny, airy place, ideally protected from rain, for example under the overlap of the roof or in the foil. Plant plants with sufficient spacing to make air flow well between them. Ponduted and heavy soil creates an ideal environment for the spread of molds, so pay attention to quality drainage and water only to the roots, preferably in the morning to keep the leaves dry. Regular ventilation of greenhouses and avoiding tomatoes in the same place after potatoes or other related crops is also suitable.
Another key step in prevention is to maintain air stands. Regularly piping side shoots, especially in rod tomatoes, and remove the lower leaves that are the most common focus of the infection. Collect the ripe fruits in time so that they do not accumulate unnecessarily on plants. Check the plants at least once a week and immediately remove the infected leaves or fruits if the mold is suspected. The right support also helps. The shoots that roll on the ground have a greater tendency to rot.
When choosing varieties, focus on those that show natural mold resistance, such as some wild tomatoes. Combined cultivation also works well as a natural prevention. For example, you can plant marigolds, basil or aksamitník that have the ability to repel pests and dampen the occurrence of diseases. And if mold appears despite all measures, it is advisable to intervene in time, either natural spraying such as edible soda or targeted fungicides.
Healthy tomatoes as a reward for care
Although mold on tomatoes sometimes cannot be completely avoided, you can significantly reduce the risk of their occurrence by consistent prevention. If you provide tomatoes ideal conditions, sufficient sun, airy vegetation, proper watering and regular maintenance, will reward you with healthy and tasty fruits. In the first symptoms of attacks, it is important to react quickly so that the infection does not spread. Bet resistant varieties, combine tomatoes with herbs and do not be afraid to use natural helpers in the fight against mold diseases. With a little care and attention you will be able to reap rich and healthy harvest.
