Leaders of (Landless Rural Workers Movement) accuse the management of the minister (agrarian development) to inflate statistics from new settlements and claim that the data released by the government (PT) do not reflect the reality experienced by the peasants.
According to them, the government has announced as land delivered areas that have not yet been recognized as expropriated by the court. Thus, they say that the ads have only served for the purposes of disclosure of the ministry, with no real impact on the lives of the camps.
The Ministry of Agrarian Development rejects the prosecution, says it has worked with unprecedented transparency and that it disseminates how the areas have already delivered to which there has already been technical analysis and commitment of resources for expropriation. In addition, it attributes difficulties in recent years to problems inherited from the administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The Ministry says that the Attorney of Incra (National Institute of Colonization and Agrarian Reform) is preparing the action on Campo do Meio to present to the court and that the rite is being fulfilled quickly compared to the average time. The legal deadline to file a lawsuit from the expropriation decree is up to two years.
Maíra Coaraci, Incra’s land director, states that the late budget approval on April 10 impacted the evolution of the process, but since then the funds have already been committed and the action must be presented to court soon. Therefore, he says, the case is already considered resolved. She evaluates that by the end of the year the landless will already notice concrete advantages of expropriation.
She states that the criterion for preparing the list of new lands delivered, contested by the MST, is the conclusion of the administrative process of obtaining, with ready -made technical analysis and committed resources. In such cases, what is missing is usually the notary’s certificate and/or the decision of justice on the approval of expropriation.

Regarding the possibility that justice will reject the expropriation of an area after it has been announced as delivered by the government, she states that “this risk exists at any time and phase” and that even settlements with decades of existence suffer legal setbacks.
“We cannot account for numbers and demonstrate the progress of the processes because of this risk, otherwise nothing will leave,” he says.
The disruption of policies in Bolsonaro management is often pointed out by the ministry and Lula as a reason for the difficulties in presenting better results.
In the first year of office, the MST, which campaigned for Lula’s reelection in 2022, recognized obstacles and contained himself in criticism. Recently, however, it started to charge more incisively.

The landless has already brought Lula directly dissatisfaction with Teixeira. In an event at the end of May, the president dealt with the theme.
“That’s what I want us to do in MDA, Paulinho. Instead of having someone to say ‘no’, having someone to say ‘I will find solution’. If it’s easy, if it’s hard, I do. If I can’t do it, I apologize to you, because people come to respect the things that happen in our relationship,” he said.
