Naval Marines of Brazil participate in NATO Exercise – 15/06/2025 – Panel

Brazilian Navy Marines landed last Thursday (12) in Lorient, West Coast of France, to perform an unprecedented joint exercise with troops, Western Military Alliance. 13 Brazilian military personnel participated, 2 in the staff and 11 in platoon.

The Brazilian Marines were aboard the French Navy Amphibian Helicopter Holder. Seven NATO countries participate in the exercise – Aliented in France, there are military personnel from Spain, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Greece and the USA. Another country to take part was Australia.

Lorient activities involve patrolling, establishing defensive positions and coordination, focusing on interoperability, combined training and readiness for real employment scenarios.

Last week, Brazilian Naval Marines also performed an amphibious operation in the United Kingdom, within Operation Catamaran, with a task force with 12 war ships, of which 5 amphibious ships.

There were also combined training between the troops involved. Brazilian instructors of the 1st Marine Infantry Battalion applied the basic module of the French Military Martial Arts Program. In all, 12 were qualified with the “beige belt”, the first level of the program.

According to the Navy, the Brazilian presence in the operation reinforces the participation of Marines in multinational environments and the ties of cooperation with NATO nations.
