The names of local rulers were at least very popular in Austria. Those of the Babenberger and Habsburg, such as Leopold, Heinrich, Friedrich, Rudolf, Franz or Joseph, have been found in many families for centuries. But one who had his center of power in the field of today’s Austria probably never came to such an honor at all: in the crisis year 260, Regalian in Carnuntum took power and was raised to Augustus – i.e. the Roman emperor and opposite emperor of the governing Gaul. In the Atlas the first name of the Statistics Austria, however, there is no single goal for this name: Regalian is a forgotten ruler. No wonder when you consider that, apart from a few coins, there have been hardly any historical sources about him.
