The authorities are investigating all aspects of the fateful flight, said an aviation official. Research teams from the United Kingdom and the United States arrived on Friday at Ahmedabad to collaborate in the investigation of the accident.
“Like you, we want to know what happened,” said Natarajan Chandrasekaran, president of Tata Sons, a company that owns Air India, in a message addressed to the staff. “The Tata Group takes its responsibility with society seriously, and that includes being transparent about what happened.”
Air security experts have indicated some anomalies on the brief flight, based on video recordings. The images show the extended landing gear after takeoff, and the flaps on the output edge of the wings could have been retracted by error. The 787 aircraft, which was heading to London, crashed just seconds after taking off, exploiting in a huge fireball.
