New model will allow automatic debit of accounts such as water, electricity and subscription services
Automatic Pix goes into operation this Monday (16.Jun.2025). The new modality will allow the automatic debit of recurring payments such as water bills, electricity, telephone, gyms and subscription services.
Central Bank President Gabriel Galipolo on June 4 that the tool could benefit up to 60 million people who do not have credit card.
With an initial authorization, debts will be made automatically, without the need for new confirmation with each charge. The user may set value limit, periodicity (monthly, bimonthly etc.) and due date.
Automatic PIX schedules may be accompanied in the specific section of Pix within bank applications.
The sport will not have cost to the payer, but receiving companies may be charged. The automatic pix offer is made by those who receive the payment.
If there is not enough balance, the system will make up to 5 debit attempts – two on the scheduled day and 3 in the following days. Any fines and interest will be added to the next maturity.
Automatic pix dispenses with the use of pix keys. Transactions can also be done with traditional receiver bank details – the number of account and agency.
How to authorize recurring charges
Automatic Pix offers different ways for the payer to authorize recurring payments. Here’s the options:
- mobile notification – The recipient sends the payment proposal. The payer receives a notification in the bank’s application and checks the collection data (value, periodicity, debit date and identification of the recipient). Then confirms the authorization.
- Receiver website – When choosing automatic pix from the site, the user selects the bank, checks the data and is redirected to the application to authorize the collection;
- QR code or pix copies and glue – Authorization can also be done by reading a QR Code or a Pix Copy and Cola code. Companies that send invoices or offer services with immediate payment may include the option of automatic Pix in the same QR code as the collection;
- QR code with immediate payment + recurrence – QR Code includes a single payment and the authorization of future automatic charges. By paying, the user enables the recurring debts.
After authorizing, the user may:
- consult or cancel scheduled authorizations and debts;
- activate or disable scheduling notifications;
- Check the history of authorizations;
- Manage the exclusive limit for automatic pix.
Security
The Central Bank states that the automatic pix follows the same security standards as traditional Pix and will continue to operate with high level of protection.
The offer of the sport will be restricted to companies considered suitable, with active CNPJ for at least 6 months.
In case of improper collection, reimbursement must be requested through the Special Return Mechanism). When the error is from the bank – as failures in authorization management – the return will be mandatory.
In fraud or scam situations, the current rules of MED continue to be valid: the 2 banks involved should evaluate the case, and the reimbursement only occurs if there is agreement between the institutions and balance available in the receiver’s account.
Difference of other modalities
Automatic Pix has its own features that distinguish it from other available forms of payment:
- Pix Scheduled – Allows the scheduling of a single payment to a future date;
- Recurrent pix – enables the scheduling of transfers with fixed values, repeatedly repeated;
- automatic debt traditional – It only works in banks that have an agreement with the service provider, which limits the number of available institutions and providers.
Automatic PIX expands the scope of recurring payments as it does not depend on specific agreements between companies and banks, and offers greater configuration and control flexibility to the user.
