The president of GuianaIrfaan Ali, pedium support do Brazilian government to the candidacy of the agricultural scientist Muhammad Ibrahim for the position of Director General of the Inter -American Institute for Agriculture Cooperation (IICA).
Irfan Ali delivered a letter to the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)with this demand, on the sidelines of the Brazil-Caribe summit, which brought together leaders from the region on Friday (13) in Brasilia.
A body focused on agricultural and rural development, based on the coast, the IICA is headed by Argentine veterinarian Manuel Otero. He took over in 2018 and, after reelected, ends his term in 2026.
The election to choose Otero’s successor takes place in November, in Brasilia, amid a meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of Latin America and the Caribbean.
Guyana signals, in exchange for Brazilian support, a renewed commitment to engage in the success of COP30 in Belém.
