Why the Sperence disputes the World Cup

The Sperence qualified for the tournament due to the ranking of CAF (African Football Confederation) clubs. The team is the second best placed in the ranking, behind only Al Ahly.

African teams classified to the 2025 Club World Cup guaranteed their vacancies from the following criteria:

  • Hope (tun) – Classified via CAF ranking
  • Al Ahly (EGI) – Champion of the CAF 2021 and 2023 Champions League
  • Wydad Casablanca (sea) – Champion of the CAF 2022 Champions League
  • Mamelodi Sundowns (AFS) – Classified via CAF ranking

Since 2020, the period that rated the teams for the World Cup, the Tunisia team reached the African Champions League final in the 2023/24 season, but lost the decision to Al Ahly, from Egypt, and arrived in the semifinal in 2022/23, also losing to Al Ahly.

The Sperance is the fourth largest winner in the history of the African Champions League, with four titles. The team won in 1994, 2011, 2018 and in the 2018/19 season.

The only clubs with the most achievements of the African Champions League are Al Ahly, with 12 trophies, Zamalek, from Egypt, and Mazembe, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, with five achievements each.
