O will participate in the summit of Next Tuesday (17), at the invitation of the government of Canada. Lula travels on the morning of this scent (16) to Kananaskis, in the province of Alberta, central region of the country. The Brazilian head of state will participate in the external engagement segment, part of the summit program. It is the ninth time he is invited to attend the meeting. In addition to Brazil, leaders of South Africa, Australia, South Korea, United Arab, India and Mexico were invited, as well as leaders of the following international organizations: UN, World Bank, European Commission and the European Union Council.

The G7 was created in 1975, at the initiative of French President Valéry Giscard D’Estaing, with the aim of bringing together the world’s most industrialized countries at the time to deal with common interest economic policy issues. In 2025, the group completes 50 years of existence. Currently, the member countries are: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. The main theme of the meeting with the Brazilian president will be energy security, with emphasis on technology and innovation, diversification and feasibility of productive chains of critical minerals, infrastructure and investment. Forest preservation and fire prevention will also be debated.

The powers gather with a focus on the energy agenda, but in a moment of strong global geopolitical tension. The war between Russia and Ukraine, with no prospects for pacification. Israel’s massacre in Gaza, often classified by President Lula not as a war, but a genocide – with an army against civilians, especially women and children. And with the growth of international popular mobilization amid the omission of international organizations. As if that were not enough, the attacks started by Israel against Iran last week, causing the counteractive and threat of an armed conflict of unpredictable proportions. And the risk of western military mobilization becomes a new war.

All this in a climate emergency environment requiring the world’s most industrialized nations a late attention to climate agreements signed for decades. These agreements are never fulfilled, to a large extent due to the lack of commitment of the rich, as well as President Lula always points out in his international agendas.

“President Lula’s participation in the G7 meeting is very important, because we will have COP 30 in Brazil. It is an opportunity for the president to talk about the organization of COP 30 and to invite the other leaders to come to Brazil. And the main discussion of G7 has a direct connection with what will be treated at the conference in Belém,” said the secretary of climate, energy and environment of the Ministry of Foreign Relations Lyrio. Brazil maintains with the members of the G7 Coordination on International Agenda themes, either bilaterally or within the G20 and international organizations in which Brazil and members of the interact group.
