Massacre: Auckland loses 10-0, a record in Worlds – 16/06/2025 – The world is a ball

Right on the second day of the Club World Cup (the FIFA Supermundial), a record. The greatest rout in the history of the worlds.

German giant Bayern Munich applied no less than 10-0 (6-0 in the first half, 4-0 in the second half) at New Zealand’s fragile Auckland City at the TQL stadium in Cincinnati.

Never in the Men’s World Cups of FIFA – Clubs had its first edition in 2000, in Brazil, with Victory of Corinthians, and the selections in 1930, with Uruguay Champion – someone had taken such a big beating.

I watched entirely only at the first half of this Sunday’s game (15), which looked like an adults x children, such as the physical and technical disparity among players.

Playing at a training pace, Bayern’s thyme, filled with state -of -the -art players (from Germany, France, England, Croatia, Portugal), began, from 5 minutes, to score one goal after another at the New Zealand semiprofessional.

Auckland athletes, even foreigners (all unknown), do not live mainly from football, which is a kind of second job, played in their spare time. They do not receive team salary, but only a cost allowance, a symbolic value.

During the broadcast, narrators/commentators mentioned that there was an Auckland athlete who was an engineer and another who was a stockist. He also had real estate broker, insurance agent, commercial representative, physiotherapist etc.

The 10-0 in Ohio was humiliating, and it could have been much more, as Bayern did not play deep on the accelerator and the little-inspired mega-scorer Harry Kane, scored no goal. They marked Musiala (3), Coman (2), Olise (2), Thomas Müller (2) and Boey.

Seeing the game, I was sure that a lot of Várzea team here in Brazil would win Auckland in a clash. Too bad this from Oceania. The players could barely master the ball, which easily escaped them. Wrong passes in abundance, loose marking. Final score of finishes? Bayern 31 x 1 Auckland.

I was sorry. Just as I was sorry for El Salvador, more than 40 years ago. One of my great memories of the 1982 World Cup in Spain is Hungary’s Doding in the Salvadoran in the group stage.

I will remember the name Guevara Mora. It was the goalkeeper who took ten goals from the Hungarians. He went to catch the ball in the back of the goal ten times, as did the New Zealand goalkeeper Conor Tracey, who had to take unpaid license from his job to act at Supermundial and avoided a 17-0 by making seven defenses.

The difference of that 1982 game (coincidentally also on June 15) for this 2025 is that El Salvador was able to score a goal. 10-1 at Nuevo Stadio in Elche established himself as the largest rout in FIFA World Cups. Surpassed by 10-0 now.

Until then, in the disputes between clubs organized by the top football entity, the most elastic score had been the 6-1 of Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) in Al Jazira (United Arab Emirates), in the quarterfinals of the 2021 edition, when the competition had seven teams – in a swollen format, 32.

As a breath to Auckland in the 1982 World Cup, after 10-1 at the debut, El Salvador was no longer massacred. Lost the next two matches, but decently: 1-0 to Belgium and 2-0 to Diego Maradona’s Argentina.

In this supermundial, Auckland will still face Portuguese Benfica, on Friday (20), and Argentine Boca Juniors, on Tuesday (24).
