The 2025 Judo World Championship is being held until June 20 in Budapest, Hungary. The event marks the beginning of the Olympic cycle towards the Los Angeles 2028 games. More than 500 athletes from 90 countries are in action, including the numerous Brazilian delegation.
For Brazil, the World Cup is an opportunity to maintain the good phase in international competitions. In 2025, the Brazilian team participated in six Grand Slams, winning a total of 11 medals (four silver and seven bronzes).
In addition, the country made the best campaign in the Pan American and Oceania Championship, with 17 podiums.
The Judo World Cup follows the shape of the Olympic Games, with a male category and a female competing per day, in addition to closing with the mixed teams.
The qualifiers start at 6:30 am (Brasília time), while the finals take place from 13h.

Medals of Brazil at the Judo World Cup 2025
On the first day, Natasha Ferreira (-48kg) was eliminated in the first round and Michel Augusto (-60kg) ended in 5th place. Already on the second day, Jessica Pereira (-52kg) and Ronald Lima (-66kg) were also eliminated early.
The highlight came on the third day of the event, with Shirlen Nascimento winning the bronze medal in the category up to 57 kg. She shone at the debut in Worlds, winning with an IPPON at the Golden Score. On the same day, Daniel Cargnin won the silver in the category up to 73 kg.
In the following days of the World Cup, Brazil continues to search for more medals. On the 17th, Luana Carvalho (70 kg) and the judokas of the category up to 90 kg, Marcelo Fronckowiak and Rafael Macedo, will also be in dispute. On the 18th, it will be the turn of the athletes up to 78 kg, Beatriz Freitas and Karol Gimenes, as well as Leonardo Gonçalves (100 kg).
On the penultimate day of disputes, Beatriz Souza enters the Tatame for the category over 78 kg, after winning the gold at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Rafael Buzacarini will be the Brazilian representative in the category over 100 kg and is also one of the medal hopes for the country.
Ending the World Cup on June 20, the mixed team dispute takes place. Brazil will feature Jessica Lima and Vinicius rump into the race.
Brazilian delegation at the Judo World Cup
The Brazilian team has 20 judokas, nine athletes in men and nine in women in individual disputes, as well as two representatives, Jessica Lima and Vinicius Ardina, exclusively in the competition for mixed teams.
Among the main highlights are Olympic medalists Beatriz Souza, Rafaela Silva and Daniel Cargnin. Beside them are young talents like Shirlen Nascimento and Luana Carvalho.
