It announced him on Monday (16) the Argentine Matías Almeyda as his new coach for the next three seasons. Almeyda will officially take over the team in July, when he will start his second spell at the Spanish club after a stage as a player in the 1996/1997 season. The 51 -year -old Argentine had been since 2022 at AEK of Athens, where he won the Greek Championship and the Greece Cup in his first season. Its total record in the team is 80 wins, 24 draws and 30 losses.
Almeyda began his career as a coach as soon as he hung his boots in 2011, when he helped OA return to the first Argentine division after the first relegation of its history. Then he passed Banfield (2013-2015) and Chivas Guadalajara do Mexico (2015-2018), where he was champion of the 2017/2018 Concacaf Champions League. Before going to Europe, he had a US MLS stint at San José Earthquakes (2018-2022), a team that led in 103 games.
