Four armed men shot the mayor in Oaxace, Mexico faces increasing violence against politicians.
Four armed men on Sunday invaded the Town Hall in San Mateo Piňas in the Mexican state of Oaxaca, where they shot the mayor Lilia Garci and her collaborator. Two city cops were also injured in the attack, the police said. TASR informs about this, referring to AFP.
The men came to the town hall on motorcycles. Before they invaded inside, they threatened the police guarding the building.
Investigating attackers
“This act cannot remain unpunished,” the Governor of Oaxaca Salomon Jara Cruz wrote on social networks. The local prosecutor’s office said it was investigating the attack. Military and federal agents were deployed in the area.
Dozens of local politicians in Mexico have been the target of organized criminal groups in recent years, especially in areas where influential drug trafficking gangs operate.
Violence has recently spread to the capital of Mexico, where two close collaborators of Mayor Clary Brugad were murdered in May.

Since 2006, violent acts, mostly associated with drug trafficking, have claimed approximately 480,000 lives in Mexico, more than 120,000 people are missing.
