USA may ban citizens from 36 countries, says newspaper

According to a document, state department will give 60 days for nations to resolve issues related to national security

The US evaluates imposing visa restrictions on citizens from 36 countries, according to an internal document obtained by. The information was released on Saturday (14.jun.2025) by the US newspaper and includes countries such as Egypt, Syria and South Sudan.

Listed nations have 60 days to resolve specific national security issues. Otherwise, they will face total or partial prohibitions of entry into the US territory.

Citizens of listed countries would have been identified in activities considered security threats, such as terrorist acts on US soil and anti-Semite and anti-American actions. According to Reuterswhich also had access to the document, not all these concerns apply to each country on the list.

“We are constantly reevaluating policies to ensure the safety of Americans and that foreigners follow our laws”the vehicle declared a high employee of the US State Department.

Here are the 36 countries that may face restrictions:

  • Angola;
  • Antigua and bearded;
  • Benin;
  • Bhutan;
  • Burkina Faso;
  • Cape Verde;
  • Cambodia;
  • Cameroon;
  • Ivory Coast;
  • Democratic Republic of Congo;
  • Djibuti;
  • Dominica;
  • Ethiopia;
  • Egypt;
  • Gabon;
  • Gambia;
  • Gana;
  • Quirgistan;
  • Liberia;
  • Malawi;
  • Mauritania;
  • Niger;
  • Nigeria;
  • St. Christopher and Nevis;
  • Saint Lucia;
  • Sao Tome and Principe;
  • Senegal;
  • South Sudan;
  • Syria;
  • Tanzania;
  • Tonga;
  • Tuvalu;
  • Uganda;
  • Vanuatu;
  • Zambia;
  • Zimbabwe.

This would be the highest expansion of visa restrictions since early June, when 12 countries were affected by total and another 7 by partial restrictions. Possible new restrictions would expand the previous ban, which affected Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritreia, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.

It has not been disclosed which specific measures each of the 36 countries will need to adopt to avoid restrictions, nor if everyone will face the same type of limitation.

“The State Department is committed to protecting our nation and its citizens, maintaining the highest standards of national security and public security through our visa process.”said the same representative of the department.

During the 1st term of (Republican), from 2017 to 2021, the US government announced an entry ban for travelers of 7 nations of a Muslim majority. Policy underwent several modifications before being confirmed by the Supreme Court in 2018.
