Luis Zubeldía is no longer the coach of São Paulo. The club announced on the morning of Monday (16) that the parties decided to end work “in common agreement and in a friendly manner”.
The decision comes after a bad sequence of three losses in the Brazilian Championship, the last 3-1 against Vasco, in the middle of Morumbis.
Hired in April 2024, Zubeldía led the team in 85 matches, with 38 wins, 27 draws and 20 losses, which corresponds to a 55%use.
“Conversations with the coach have been held in recent days so that the decision was made, respectfully. The board remains gathered to define what the new technical committee will be,” Sao Paulo said in a statement.
Hernan Crespo, who led Sao Paulo in 2021, when he won the title of the Paulista Championship over Palmeiras, is the favorite of the board to take office.
With Zubeldía, Sao Paulo reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores, the Brazilian Cup and the Paulista Championship in 2024, eliminated by Botafogo, Atlético-MG and Novorizontino, respectively.
In 2025, São Paulo fell in the state in the semifinals for Palmeiras. In the Brazilian, the team currently occupies 14th position in the classification table, with 12 points, dangerous with the relegation zone. There are two wins, six draws and four losses in the tournament.
Already in Libertadores, the team advanced first in their group and picks up Atletico Nacional, from Colombia, in the round of 16. For the Brazilian Cup, the next commitment, also for the round of 16, is against Athletico-PR.
The next game of Sao Paulo is only on July 11 – given to the break for the FIFA World Cup – when it faces Flamengo away from home by the Brazilian.
