In the first half of the game on Tuesday, Fluminense dictated the rhythm and was the only team that really took danger to the opposing goal. The highlight of the first stage was Jhon Arias, with two submissions that forced goalkeeper Kobel to intervene to keep zero on the scoreboard. The striker was eventually elected the best of the match. Martinelli still startled with a placed kick that passed close to the left post.
