Antarctic is a popular place for particle research. In loneliness, far from civilization, fleeting signals that otherwise remain hidden – signals from space are visible. The most spectacular detector in the Antarctic ice desert is probably ICE-Cube, a network of light-sensitive sensors that have been sunk several kilometers deep in the ice and record light flashes there in the darkness caused by cosmic particles.
