Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations (), Amir Saeid Iravani, said on Monday (16) that his country will continue to defend himself “proportionately” in the face of attacks from. “We will continue to defend ourselves until Israel’s aggressions end,” the diplomat told journalists at the agency’s headquarters in New York.

Iravani accused Israel of surpassing “all red lines” by directly reaching civilian targets and critical infrastructure within the Iranian territory. “Hospitals were hit, oil refineries. This was not an accident. It was purposeful,” he said. According to him, Tehran’s military action against Tel Aviv was a legitimate response to “preserving national sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Iran.

Despite the firm tone, the ambassador sought to reinforce that Iran does not want a climb in the conflict, “but let’s protect our sovereignty and integrity.” Iravani warned of the humanitarian risks of Israeli bombing and said the radiation leakage caused by the attacks on Iranian nuclear plants “was quickly contained.”

The Iranian representative also blamed the United States for the attacks of Israel. For him, the UN Security Council needs to act on the scenario “and condemn the aggression and the aggressor,” he said in direct reference to Israel.
