This Monday (16), the singer used the stories of her Instagram profile to thank the support of Sister Maria Gil and friend Jude Paula, who are next to her during the process. “My beloved sister Maria Gil, this really cares! Thank you for being here with me!” Wrote Preta when sharing a photo in a hospital environment. In another click, she appears with her friend and also makes a point of expressing her gratitude: “My Bestie (my best friend, free translation), I love to have you from my side.” The son of the singer, Francisco Gil, also accompanied his mother at the beginning of treatment, but recently returned to Brazil due to professional commitments.
Understand the case of Preta Gil
The singer has been dealing with bowel cancer since 2023. Among the symptoms that made her suspect a health problem were intense intestinal constipation and flattened stools with mucus and blood. At the time, she held radiotherapy and surgical treatment sessions. The artist also underwent a total abdominal hysterectomy, a procedure that consists of the removal of the uterus. After primary treatment, he entered a phase without manifestation of the disease, commonly called “remission,” according to doctors heard by Estadão. In other words, cancer was no longer detectable by physical examinations, image, tomography and/or blood.
Recently, however, the disease has manifested again. Preta performed surgery in December last year for the removal of tumors and will need to use a definitive colostomy bag. The bag collects feces or urine in a kind of bag external to the body from an opening made in the abdominal cavity. Check out her testimony about the procedure here. Since March, the singer has reported a new difficulty: the exhaustion of treatments that can help in the remission of the disease here in Brazil. She explained, during a time on Domingão with Huck, that she would go to the United States to try new treatment methods. Preta went to the country on May 13, to start the new treatment for cancer.
