Fluminense debuts at the Club World Cup on Tuesday (17/06) against Borussia Dortmund at Metlife Stadium in New York, United States. Despite the good moment, with four consecutive wins and six games without losing, coach Renato Gaúcho does not have one of his main athletes among the holders to face the German team.

Striker Germán Cano will not start in the debut match of Fluminense of the Club World Cup, against Borussia Dortmund. Coach Renato Gaúcho confirmed the striker’s absence in the starting lineup at a news conference on Monday (16).

Why is not playing germán play?
The absence of the player in the starting lineup is for Renato Gaúcho’s decision. The coach explained that, although the attacker is 100% recovered from the left knee ligament distension, suffered in late April, he still needs a pace of game due to time inactivity.
Since he suffered the injury, Cano has lost nine games for Fluminense (five in the Brazilian Championship, one in the Brazilian Cup and three in the South American Cup).

In addition to the absence of germán pipe among the holders in the first clash of the World Cup, Fluminense will not be attended by newly hired Soteldo. The striker suffered a grade 2 muscle injury and is expected to return only in a possible knockout.
Nevertheless, coach Renato Gaúcho should arrive in full force for the match, maintaining the base that was being used in the last tricolor games.
