Argentine government officials want to begin a deal considered unthinkable these days: sewing a bilateral meeting between presidents Javier Milei and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. According to an important interlocutor of Buenos Aires, the idea is that the two mandates can meet on the sidelines of the Mercosur summit, which will take place in Argentina, next July 3. The argument is that bilateral relations are greater than the differences between the presidents.
Lula and Javier Milei met a few times, but always protocol. The two presidents, one left and right, never did well, mainly due to the Argentine leader. Ally of former President Jair Bolsonaro, Milei has attacked Lula in many ways, calling him corrupt, thief and communist.
Sought by GLOBOMembers of the Planalto and Itamaraty Palace said they did not arrive any request for a bilateral between Lula and Milei from the Argentine government. These interlocutors demonstrated skepticism about this possibility, especially starting from the president of the neighboring country. They evaluate that the answer may be positive if the request arises, but they believe the meeting would only happen if the Argentine apologized for the offenses made to Lula.

Also according to this interlocutor of the Argentine government, the relations between Brazil and Argentina are more important than the political positions of the two presidents. Thanks to the chancels, the bilateral agenda did not stop. There is a Political Coordination Mechanism (MCP), which provides for periodic meetings between authorities from both countries.
According to members of the two governments, the Brazil-Argentine relationship brings tangible benefits to the populations of both countries. It is marked by the intense flow of trade and investments, infrastructure integration and between border populations, the large amount of tourists and cooperation in sectors such as safety, defense, energy and technology.
