The Public Prosecution Service filed a preventive investigation on Wednesday to the former Socialist General Secretary Pedro Nuno Santosrelated to the purchase of two houses in Lisbon and Montemor-o-Novo.
The information was initially advanced by CNN and, according to the filing order to which Lusa had access, the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP) understood not finding evidence of crime And therefore, determined that preventive investigation would not follow to open an inquiry.
“It is not seen how to conclude by the existence of intentional action and much less with criminal contours,” reads in the document that adds that “there are no grounds to impute responsibilities for the succeeded (…), much less to consider that they act [Pedro Nuno Santos e a sua mulher] intentionally in order to pay a lower amount than due to IMI ”.
Preventive investigation was in April this year and was related to the purchase of two houses, one in Lisbon and one in Montemor-o-Novo, and the prosecutor requested more information from Pedro Nuno Santos for about a month.
In reaction, a few hours later, the news that the PGR opened a preventive investigation in which it was targeted, the PS leader published all documentation Regarding the purchase of the two houses on the PS portal and was made available to be heard on the subject by the Public Prosecution Service-but said the coincidence and the moment of the news, shortly before the legislative elections.
The news of the case has more than a year and a half – it had been advanced by Saturday magazine in November 2023 – but the complaints were recent.
