Pew Research Center indicates that perception of the country is particularly unfavorable in 8 nations, where more than 75% reject it

A survey of the one released on June 3, 2025 revealed that most people in 21 of 24 countries analyzed have a negative view of. The data were collected by online panels and telephone interviews from January to April this year. Here A (PDF – 2.8 MB).

The country has been a climb of military conflicts since 2023 in the Middle East. The survey was released 9 days before Israel bombard nuclear facilities in Iranian territory on June 12, starting a new conflict in the region.

The survey shows that the image of Israel is particularly negative in 8 countries, where about 3/4 or more of the interviewees expressed unfavorable view of the Jewish state. They are:

  • Australia;
  • Greece;
  • Indonesia;
  • Japan;
  • Netherlands;
  • Spain; and
  • Sweden.

In the United States, the portion of adults with negative vision increased by 11 percentage points between March 2022 and March 2025. Today, 53% of respondents have more unfavorable opinions about Israel, and 45%, more favorable. Among Republican voters, rejection rose 10 percentage points from 27% to 37%.

In 10 of these countries, the question had been last asked in 2013. From them, 7 showed significant growth in the proportion of adults with unfavorable vision. In the United Kingdom, the percentage rose from 44% in 2013 to 61% today. Here are the 7 countries that presented an increase in rejection to Israel:

  • United Kingdom;
  • France;
  • Germany;
  • Italy;
  • Spain; and
  • Indonesia.

In India, opinions are divided, with 34% of adults having favorable vision and 29% unfavorable. The country’s Hindu nationalism, driven by the Indian People’s Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh organization, has intensified anti -mirror feelings that may have contributed to a more favorable vision to Israel among the population, given that the country is at least 2 jihadist groups (Hamas and Hezbollah) and a Shiite country (Iran).

In Kenya and Nigeria, approximately half or more of adults maintain positive perception of Israel. Both African countries have also been conflicted involving Islamic groups in the last decade.

Generational differences

In countries such as Australia, Canada, France, Poland, South Korea and the United States, there is a predominance of unfavorable view of Israel among young people.

There is also a generational difference in public trust in Israeli Prime Minister (Likud, right). In Hungary, for example, adults 50 years or older are double the likelihood of trusting him compared to those between 18 and 34 years old (40% against 20%).

With the exception of Kenya and Nigeria, no more than 1/3 of adults in any researched country trust Netanyahu to do what is right in relation to world affairs.

Research shows the negative impact of war against Hamas. Netanyahu is accused by countries and human rights organizations of promoting a genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Confidence in Israeli Prime Minister is especially low in 11 countries:

  • Australia;
  • France;
  • Germany;
  • Greece;
  • Indonesia
  • Italy;
  • Japan;
  • Netherlands;
  • Spain;
  • Sweden.

In Türkiye, about 3/4 or more of adults have little or no confidence in it.

Left rejects Israel

Ideological differences also had an impact on Israeli perceptions. In some countries where political ideology was included in the questionnaire, people who position themselves on the left demonstrated more negative view than right -wing.

In Australia, self -declared leftist interviewees are approximately double the probability of having an unfavorable opinion on Israel (90% against 46%). In the United States, 74% of those who claim to be liberals have a negative view, against 30% of those who declare themselves conservative. In France, 25% of right -wing voters trust Netanyahu, from 12% center and 8% left.

Israelis do not feel respected

Among Israeli citizens, 58% believe that their country is not internationally respected, while 39% consider Israel to be respected. Although this general perception remains virtually unchanged compared to 2024, the proportion of Israelis who claim that their country is not “Not at all” Respected increased 9 percentage points in the same period, from 15% to 24%.

Right Israelis is more likely to believe that their country is internationally respected (49%) compared to leftist ones (24%). Israel’s Arabs and Jews show equal probability of considering that the country is internationally respected, a standard consistent with the results of the previous year.
