Authorities recommend the population, especially to the elderly, not to get out of their homes and consume liquids. Every summer, the Japanese authorities ask the population – especially the elderly – to protect themselves while remaining in air conditioning.

In the last five years, the elderly represent more than 80% of those who died for reasons related to high temperatures, while last summer was the warmest recorded in the archipelago.

Japan also records a tourist record record, with 21% of foreign visitors in May compared to last year.
