In a video published on Tuesday (17), Angela Mendes, daughter of rubber tree leader Chico Mendes and president of the Chico Mendes committee, made a tough statement about the current situation lived by families of the extractive reserve Chico Mendes, in Acre. According to her, the ICMBio offensive against small producers is being used politically and refers to the times before the murder of his father.
“It’s been very serious. It’s not easy, it is not easy for me to watch all this. It brings me a very sad memory. It seems to me that we are returning to that time that resulted in the murder of my father,” said Angela, visibly thrilled.
She criticized what she called “fake news spread over bad people” and denounced the political use of repressive actions against reserve residents. “There are people taking advantage of this action to do politics. Coward policy, playing the reserve population against servers and very important leaders, such as Uncle Bill, which remains a very active voice.”

The environmentalist’s daughter also questioned the interests behind the studies that underlie the actions against residents of Resex. “Who is behind this study? The people of usual. The people of the 24 that we faced back there and we will continue to fight.”
Finally, Angela appealed for the responsibility of the Federal Government. “My father’s blood still gushes in this forest. It takes strong intervention in this situation, under penalty of having more blood being spilled, intentionally.”
The video was published a few hours after the Acre federal bench, led by Senator Alan Rick, meeting with the federal government asking for the suspension of ICMBio’s actions at Resex Chico Mendes.
