Opposition officials on Wednesday criticized the police efforts to detain the chairman of the non -parliamentary party Democrats and ex -Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď. The deputy of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic Juraj Krúpa (SaS) described the intervention of the police as amaterism, as it is a few days abroad, which he publicly announced on the social network. PS chairman Michal Šimečka perceives the effort to “demonstrate” Naďa as a political game and a pursuit of revenge.
“Everything could be criticized for the previous government, but foreign and defense policy does not belong here,” declared the Vice -President of the PS Tomáš Valášek. He thinks that when Ukraine has been the victim of Russian aggression, the government acted correctly – morally also in the interests of the security of the Slovak Republic. According to Šimečka, the provision of assistance to the challenging Ukraine is also beneficial for Slovakia.
At the same time, Krúpa did not say that suspicions in donation of material may exist, they need to be investigated. According to him, the coalition “irritates” that the former leadership of the defense department cannot be prosecuted by the police for donating the S-300 air system. “So they found something where they think it could be interesting. Personally, I believe this will be something that will not be anything, it will stretch for years and it will be just about spotting opponents,” expressed Krúpa conviction.
The Office of Combating Organized Crime (ÚBOK) carries out several securing acts of persons and things in connection with the Donor Team in Slovakia. Criminal prosecution was initiated by the Prosecutor of the European Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO).
The donor team was set up in November 2024, the initiative was the report of the Supreme Audit Office of the Slovak Republic concerning the donation of the Military Arsenal of Ukraine and the irregularities in the data on the donated assets. The then Minister of Defense Jaroslav Naď, the current chairman of the non -parliamentary party Democrats, rejects the accusation of unfair activity. Currently, there is a stay in Canada, the Democrats party announced a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
