Prior to the game between River Plate and Urawa Reds, referring to the first round of the group and the Club World Cup, there was an unusual situation. Marius Høibråten, captain of the Japanese team, decided not to greet the Argentine players before the meeting, something that caused everyone. The other Urawa Reds players complied with the Fair-Play rules, squeezing their hand to their opponents, but Høibråten remained indifferent.
After the game, Marius Høibråten eventually resorted to social networks to apologize to River Plate fans for his attitude.
“To the River Plate supporters. I forgot to tighten my hands because the protocol was new. I was confused, I was in my bubble and did not realize what we should do. So I walked without greeting River Plate players. It might have no matter that I didn’t care about the players, but that was never my intention,” wrote the captain on Instagram.
“I apologized to the players in the resort after the game and now I apologize to you, supporters. Congratulations on the victory! I wish the best for the next games,” he added.
