Climate study warns of the accumulation of violent summer thunderstorms in the Alps

Lausanne/Vienna – Extreme summer rainfalls will become more and more intensive in the Alps in the future. In the case of global warming by two degrees, a research team expects a doubling of short, strong summer rainfalls in the Alpine region. Thunderstorms with such heavy rains, as it only occurs once in 50 years today, there is a study published every 25, as one published on Thursday in the journal “NPJ Climate and Atmospheric Science”.
