The reindustrialization project of the land of the Free Zone of Barcelona where the old Nissan was located, closed in December 2021, suffered a lot to get ahead, but, once disenchanted, it is accelerating its growth. which occupies the industrial part of the land, has reached a pre -agreement to add 60,000 square meters more to its project. The reason is that the company is fulfilling its provision of cars production and sales, and needs more space to deal with growth. On the other hand, the Australian Logistics Company, which achieved the award of all land and is key to the development of the industrial part, also has an ambitious plan for the part of the area that will be allocated to logistics uses. It will invest 120 million euros to build a multimodal ship of 144,000 square meters – “The largest in Europe,” said Ignacio García Cuenca, head of Goodman Spain – and looks for logistics companies that rent the space. Calculate that the area will be fully occupied in 2026 and at the top of its performance in 2029.
The reindustrialization table that mounted the administrations, unions, employers and the consortium of the Free Zone of Barcelona to find a solution before the march of Nissan had a clear condition: that these lands and the facilities left by the Japanese multinational had, in addition to a logistic use, an important industrial part. Who would manage all this would be Goodman, who took the concession in February 2023.
The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has intervened to highlight the joint work between administrations, unions and companies, and thanked former business and work councilor, Roger Torrent, also present in the act, his work in the reindustrialization process.
The way to look for partners in the industrial part. There were some disappointments, such as the side or passing that gave that TECHNOLOGIES in the D-Hub, the project that had won the industrial part. But finally the formula was found: BTECH, a company owned by EV Motors, took 100% of the actions of the D-Hub, and in an alliance with the historic Ebro automobile manufacturer sought a powerful industrial partner.
. The joint company among all, Ebro Factory, began working at the old Nissan plant. S-700 and S-800 (in its two versions of combustion and plug-in hybrid) and now also the S-400 hybrid. The forecast this year is that the production of Ebro cars reaches 20,000 units., According to the company’s forecasts.
“Let’s go according to our planned sales plan, we are going well and we have a network of 60 dealers,” explained Rafael Ruiz, president of Ebro, after the press conference. The objective between Spanish and Chinese brands is to reach the maximum capacity of the plant in the free zone (200,000 units) by 2030. For this, it is necessary to adapt the factory and be able to increase production. For now there is a production line, which has recently added a third shift, and a new line will be added soon with an investment of 100 million euros that will be executed this year.
The pre -agreement to expand in almost 60,000 square meters the industrial use zone for Ebro Factory (specifically, there are 57,000 square meters) will serve to have a space dedicated to the logistics and parking of this company, and the necessary investment is not yet known. In total, Ebro Factory will occupy 319,000 square meters of soil, and the jobs are expected to gradually grow.
The rest of the space, about 94,000 square meters, will go to logistics for several companies that are already looking for. In this ground, Goodman will place two ships, one of them a multimodal ship of several floors – called Barcelona City Hub and which has shown a model in the living room – that will increase the surface to rent to 144,000 square meters.
The construction of this ship (the third ship of this type that Goodman has in Spain and the largest in Europe) will last 18 months and will involve an investment of 120 million euros and a generation of 2,000 jobs. “By then 70% will already be rented,” explained García Cuenca, who added that the whole space is designed for eight customers. The objective is that all lands are at full performance in 2029.
