The German office highlighted the need for peaceful solutions in conflicts in the Middle East. Germany also plans a diplomatic meeting with Iran.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz phoned with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called for moderation in operations against Iran and a diplomatic conflict resolution. There are sources in Berlin on Thursday, TASR writes according to DPA and Reuters.

The interview of the Prime Minister was late on Wednesday evening and lasted about 20 minutes, sources said. According to them, Merz expressed an understanding of the situation in which Israel is located, and for his attacks on Iranian nuclear infrastructure. However, he stressed the importance of finding diplomatic solutions.

On Friday, Germany plans to host interviews with European partners and Foreign Minister Iran Abbas Arakčí at its permanent council in Geneva, said the Reuters source on Wednesday. The aim is to get Tehran assurance that its nuclear program is used exclusively for civilian purposes. Arakči confirmed that he will participate in a meeting with departmental colleagues from Germany, Britain and France.

According to sources, Merz and Netanyahu also talked about the situation in the Gaza Strip. The office pointed out a Monday statement by the G7 summit in Canada, which asks the ceasefire. The German government called on Israel to comply with international law in the war with Hamas in Gaza, where tens of thousands of civilians have already died, and restricting the supply of aid has aggravated the humanitarian crisis, adds Reuters.
