When the heat comes seriously, keeping the laundry perfumed becomes almost a challenge. Humidity, sweat and firm air seem to cancel every effort made with detergents and softenings.

Summer should be the perfect time to dry the clothes in a flash, with that strong and constant sun that makes everything seem easier. Still, it happens all too often that the scent of clean lasts the time of a coffee. As soon as the clothes dry, only a vague hint, almost neutral remains. As if the laundry had been washed, yes, but without conviction. Instead of running to change detergent or fill the fragrance basket, perhaps it is better to stop for a moment. Some errors to avoid They make the difference, even if you don’t notice. Sometimes it is only a matter of habit: we rely on gestures that seem harmless but that, in the heat, prove to be not very smart.
And then, let’s face it: even certain remedies that seem to come out of a book of memories work more than they believe. Just try them once, to understand that they were right below.
Use too detergent and softener in the summer laundry
It is believed that abounding with the products makes the laundry more fragrant. And instead it is precisely the opposite. When you overdo it with detergent and softener, residues between the fibers remain, and with the heat they become a real trap for bad smells. At that point, goodbye freshness.
There are those who say: better than little. But if the result is a pungent and fake smell, it is worth changing method. The ideal would be to use the right dose, choose more concentrated formulas and maybe add a few drops of essential oil (lavender, eucalyptus or tea tree do wonders). The perfume thus does not cover, but accompanies.
Leave the clothes in the washing machine too long
Classic error from “Then I spread it in a moment”. The washing is started, but between one thing and the other they spend hours. Sometimes you only remember the next morning. With the heat, even a couple of hours closed in the basket are enough to ruin everything: humidity, temperature, and the fabrics begin to stink.
The ideal would be to start the washing machine only when you know you can spread immediately. Alternatively, you can choose a cycle with a “antipiega” function, so the clothes are not stopped too long. If the wait cannot be avoided, better a short wash to repeat later than leave everything closed and wet for hours.
Room errors that ruin the fragrant laundry
Drying is often underestimated, but in summer it makes the difference. It happens to spread quickly, where it happens, perhaps in the shade or in a little ventilated room for fear that the sun discolous the fabrics. But if the air does not circulate, the humidity remains, and with her also that stale smell that ruins everything.
To avoid it, it is better to:
- Spread outdoors, even in the sun, but in the less hot hours
- Choose well -ventilated spaces, albeit less comfortable
- Clean the clothespins, because they retain smells more than you think
- Leave space between one head and another, no piles stacked
A steam iron can make miracles: a light pass and the perfume returns to the surface, as just washed.
An extra trick? Spray water and baking soda in the drawers or in the closet before storing clothes
Sometimes the wardrobe is the real culprit. If inside there is smell of closed, useless to expect that the scent of the laundry will resist. A simple mix of water, baking soda and a drop of essential oil is more effective than many sprays on the market. A few splashes are enough to refresh and give new life to drawers and doors.
In short, it’s not about changing everything. A few targeted tricks are enough. If in summer the laundry loses perfume too quickly, perhaps it is the right time to rethink a couple of daily gestures.
Because that clean scent, in the end, is also good for mood.
