Iran x Israel affects today’s World Cup and should affect tomorrow’s – 19/06/2025 – The world is a ball

The first FIFA Club World Cup in format with 32 participants has been underway since the 14th in the United States.

It is the supermundial, and I have been following the games with interest, with special attention to the Brazilian teams, the main European teams and the team where Messi (Inter Miami).

In my daily work at SheetI live with various news, from different editorials. One of the subjects that have been most prominent is the conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Iran, which has been instituting the US President Donald Trump, partisan of the Israeli, to intervene.

Details related to this clash can be found in the content published by the newspaper in Mundo, and it is not my intention to address the political, military and religious reasons. Here, the question to ask is: What are the consequences for this year’s supermundial and next year’s World Cup, when will the United States be thirsty too?

Now the practical effect is small. There is no Iran team participating. They represent Asia a team from Saudi Arabia (Al Hilal), one from South Korea (Ulsan), one of the United Arab Emirates (Al Ain) and one from Japan (Urawa Reds).

Approximately 1,000 players are enrolled in the Club World Cup, and only one is Iranian. Striker Mehdi Taremi, 32, from the national team (is his third largest top scorer and acted in the World Cups of Russia-2018 and Qatar-2022) and Inter Milan.

In his supermundial debut on Tuesday (17), 1-1 against Mexican Monterrey in Pasadena (California), the current European runner-up has no Taremi, who is one of the reserves for the attack.

He could not travel because Iranian airspace closed due to the exchange of air attacks between Tehran and Tel Aviv. Taremi has been in the Iranian capital since the beginning of last week. He played on Iran’s 10th to 3-0 on North Korea for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He scored a goal.

Unable to go to the US at this time, Iranian shirt 9, which at Inter wears 99, possibly not going to next year.

Iran is classified for the World Cup. Almost a year left for the start of the World Cup, but it is not necessary to be a prophet to anticipate that Trump will do everything possible for Iranian citizens to be prevented from getting in the US anytime soon.

Today, this prohibition is in force and, with the Republican occupying the White House, this “so soon” must last for the rest of the mandate.

In football theoretically, the veto at the entrance of Iranians is not worth, because there is an agreement that athletes have “free pass” to participate in important competitions in the US, cases of the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.

The word “theoretically” gains strength when it comes to Trump, a leader who dictates the rules and laws according to his interests, not hesitating to act untimely to modify or misrepresent them whenever it is convenient.

If the confronted and authoritarian president beats the foot, FIFA, who organizes the (clubs and teams) heels, will not have the courage, bet, to face it-economicly, it doesn’t matter. You will find a way (convincing or not) to exclude Iran from the next world.

The consequence, with the absence of a country that has qualified on the field, by its own merits, will be a deep spot in football. Of those that even the strongest bleach will remove.
